Is your IT provider making the grade?

Choosing the right IT support company for your business can be a daunting task.  Small businesses Owners often settle with a family friend or “IT guy” when they truly aren’t happy with the service they receive.  When your computers are down you need a company that you trust to get you back up and running quickly.  Some traits you should look for in a competent IT provider include:

Do they respond quickly when you call?
You should not have to wait a day or two for your “IT guy” to get back to you.  Your business can’t and shouldn’t wait.

Do they proactively monitor your computer systems, or simply react when a problem is discovered?
24/7 monitoring of your network is a common practice by most IT providers these days.  Network monitoring allows an IT company to see issues developing so they can resolve them before it creates down time for your business.  If you have a server onsite, routine maintenance should also be included in your company’s IT action plan.

Do they understand your business?
Each business has unique demands.  An attorney’s office may rely more heavily on mobile email then a manufacturing facility.  It’s important that an IT provider understands the unique needs of your company in order to support your workforce appropriately.

Are they ready for your business?
A reputable IT company should be able to provide you with references or case studies that show a good track record.  Do they have escalation procedures, guaranteed response and resolution times, and a ticketing system in place to track your support request?  In addition, they should carry liability and errors and omissions insurance.  Mistakes happen, and when they do, you want to be sure your provider’s service is covered.

These are all questions you should be asking your current or potential IT provider.
